One Woman's Trash = Abigail's New Strappy Dress

I was recently blessed with a box of free fabric and I am so excited to show off my first use of it:

I fell in love with this gorgeous vintage floral and I thought it would make a beautiful dress for one of the girls since there was only about a yard and a half of it.  In order to keep it from looking too old-fashioned I paired it with an orange polka dot (from a different bag of free fabric) and some orange tulle and I chose a more modern cut for the dress.  Here is the result:

I used Simplicity 2989 as the base and made it a size bigger hoping it will fit her into next summer.

The tulle is attached to the lining so that it poofs out just the slightest bitMy favorite part of this pattern is the neck straps and bow.  I love how it goes out from the center instead of at the sides.  Abigail's favorite part is of course the twirl.

I love how this dress turned out and I am so thankful to be the recipient of such a gift of fabrics and trims (did I mention the zipper for the dress was also in the box of fabrics?).  More cuteness to come, I have already picked out the fabrics for my next project
